1971: Gradueted from Lvov polytechnical institute, Ukraine.
1971-1974: The post-gradueted fellow, Institute of Organic Chemistry National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kiev.
1974-1992: engineer, junior research worker, senior research assistant and the head of the laboratory of organosulfur chemistry at the department of professor L.N.Markovski, Institute of Organic Chemistry National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kiev.
Since 1999 – the deputy director of the Institute of Organic Chemistry National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
The results of Shermolovich`s investigations were published in 265 scientific papers in different chemical journals (russian and international) and 18 patents concerning the synthesis of new biologically active compounds, antiwear additives and additives to plastics. The 16 Ph.D dissertations were prepared under his leadership. . He is the member of the editor`s boards of three journals: Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds (international), The Journal of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (Ukraine) and Ukrinskii khimicheskii zhurnal (Ukrainian Journal of Chemistry). Yu.Shermolovich has the honoured rank “the best inventor of academy of sciences”. In 2009 he was honored by the President of Ukraine with a title an Honored Worker of Science and Engineering of Ukraine. In 2014 he got the State award of Ukraine for achievements in area of science and technique.
